24/7 Carbon Free Buildings
"24/7 Carbon Free Energy means that every kilowatt-hour of electricity consumption is met with carbon-free electricity sources, every hour of every day, everywhere."
− United Nations 24/7 Carbon-free Energy Compact
Gridcog is kicking off a new project in April to explore the opportunity for 24/7 Carbon Free Buildings. Register to come to this free introduction event and learn about this Government-supported project.
The Limits of Net Zero
When buildings meet net-zero targets through green energy procurement and annual energy matching, this doesn’t necessarily reduce ‘locational emissions’ or ensure delivery of carbon free energy to buildings on a 24/7 basis.
The waste of curtailment
Australia is rolling out new renewables at scale, but needs much higher levels of demand-side participation to balance supply and demand. Without more grid-emissions responsive buildings, Australia will waste Terrawatt-hours of renewable energy each year, and depend on fossil fuels for much longer.
